Ashwagandha is a small evergreen shrub, used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine and recently gaining contemporary awareness and research.

Recent research on Ashwagandha has covered potential effects on stress, anxiety and testosterone.

One 2019 study on 60 adults over a two month period, found that ashwagandha intake resulted in a statistically significant reduction in measured anxiety levels and was also associated with greater reductions in morning cortisol, compared with the placebo group (Lopresti et al, 2019).

Another 16 week study of 43 male participants, found a 14.7% greater increase in testosterone of the group consuming a daily ashwagandha extract, compared to the placebo (Lopresti et al, 2019). As the authors noted, further studies with larger sample sizes are required to substantiate the current findings.
