What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol. It is one of the naturally occurring compounds in the cannabis plant. CBD works with the Endocannabinoid System. This is a set of receptors in the body which directly interacts with the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS directly supports the functioning of the body and brain, including regulating the sleep cycle, pain responses, hormonal balance relating to stress management, and more.

Frequently asked questions
  • CBD stands for cannabidiol, and it is one of the main active ingredients in cannabis. CBD has been known for a long time, first being discovered back in 1940, though full and conclusive research into its effects are still in motion. In most places, the active ingredient within the cannabis plant, CBD, is legal while the cannabis plant itself still remains illegal. Scientific studies, and a vast array of anecdotal evidence has pointed to conclusions that CBD can have a vast range of health and wellbeing benefits, including possibly supporting better sleep, improved cognitive function, pain relief, and support with anxious thoughts.

  • THC is the main psychoactive ingredient in the cannabis plant, meaning that it’s the one that gets you high. This substance is closely related to many chemicals that can already be found in the human body, which are known as cannabinoids. These chemicals bind to receptors in the brain, and these receptors are responsible for a range of feelings. For example, some receptors are linked to memory, pleasure, thinking, your perception of time, and coordination. When THC attaches itself to these receptors, these different areas will be affected, which is the reason why using cannabis will end up getting the user high. In most cases, the effects of cannabis will impact the user within one minute of consumption if smoked or vaporised, though effects may start taking place up to 30 minutes later. Effects can last up to two hours, though this varies based on the individual’s tolerance and amount consumed.

  • THC and CBD are both secreted by the glands of the cannabis plant, and while they’re both technically cannabis, there are some very important differences between the two. The main difference is that CBD is legal and THC is not. This is because THC is psychoactive and CBD is not. CBD contains 0% THC, meaning that you won’t feel any psychoactive effects when you use it. For example, CBD won’t increase your appetite like THC, and it won’t result in any motor skill impairment. Another difference lies in how the two substances are sourced. CBD is harvested from hemp, which contains no THC. While the molecular structure of CBD and THC is very similar, there are differences in the arrangement that result in different effects on the human body when consumed. Regardless, both bind to our receptors similarly.

  • Puresport creates CBD products in three forms: CBD oil, CBD topicals & CBD capsules; there are a range of options by which you can take CBD. CBD can be taken in multiple ways simultaneously, as long as dosage of CBD does not exceed 70mg of CBD per day. CBD Oils: CBD oils infuse CBD into ingestible oil. CBD oils are designed to be taken sublingually (under the tongue). Use the dropper to place the desired dosage under tongue, allowing CBD to absorb. Hold in mouth until fully absorbed, or for 60 seconds. CBD Topicals: CBD topicals are commonly used as a CBD for pain and inflammation relief, making them a great CBD form to support a range of physical health issues. Topicals are designed to be applied directly to the body and massaged in. Topicals can be applied up to 3 times daily. CBD Capsules: CBD capsules contain a CBD that has been ground up, and mixed with natural ingredients to create an ingestible capsule. CBD capsules should be taken with water

  • CBD oil is best taken sublingually (under the tongue). Use the dropper to measure out the dosage of CBD desired. Place dropper under tongue, allowing CBD to sit in mouth. Do not swallow, and hold in mouth until CBD is fully absorbed, or for 60 seconds. This is the most effective way to take CBD. Some people take CBD in their coffee. This reduces the bioavailability of CBD as it is harder for the body to absorb and feel the full benefits of CBD. If you want to try taking CBD in coffee, or hot drinks, make sure the drink is tepid, and there is a kind of fat soluble ingredient that the CBD can latch on to, this increases the efficacy of taking CBD in this way.

  • The effect of CBD varies from person to person based on a variety of factors, such as height and weight, as well as how long you have been taking CBD for. Puresport has created 5 strengths of CBD to serve all people, and wellbeing concerns. When new to taking CBD, we recommend taking a starting dose - such as 500mg, 1000mg, or 1500mg. There is no harm in taking a higher starting dose, but it is beneficial to experiment with dosage to see what produces the best outcomes. If desired dosage can be incrementally built up to a higher strength of CBD: 2000mg or 3000mg. Do not exceed more than 70mg of CBD per day.

  • CBD can be taken in multiple forms simultaneously i.e. you can take CBD oil, as well as using a topical product. Many of Puresport’s products are crafted to work synergistically with each other to help provide the best wellbeing outcomes. • Puresport have crafted 5 strengths of CBD oils to help support a range of wellbeing concerns, and lifestyles. The 5 strengths range from: 500mg, 1000mg, 1500mg, 2000mg and 3000mg. We recommend people who are new to CBD start with a smaller dosage (500mg, 1000mg or 1500mg). This dosage can be scaled up to a higher dose if/when required. There is no correlation between negative impacts and taking higher doses from the outset, but it can be best to test what strength is required to produce the best outcome for your body as CBD affects everyone differently.
